Rufus King of Yonkers, New York, was a banker by profession as well as a respected genealogist. The son of Rufus Sylvester and Phoebe Odell King, his ancestors included the revolutionary war veteran and New York State Senator Rufus King, after whom he was named. He researched members of the Odell family, descendants of William Odell, fl. 1635, who settled in Rye, New York. Rufus L. King's research files on the Odell family include clippings of obituaries, announcements, and other articles about members of the Odell family, 1865-1947, and Odell family letters, legal documents, wedding invitations, and other papers, 1758-1802, assembled in the course of his research. Also included are King's genealogical notes and charts on the Odells, and his correspondence, 1874-1919, with members of the Odell family and others concerning the family's genealogy.
